The Standard Bank Bursary Programme has quite a few success stories under its wings, one such story of 30-year-old internal auditor, Maryline Mukwevho. Hailing from Protea Glen in Soweto was able to realise her dream of attaining higher education through the Standard Bank Bursary Fund. She was able to further her studies after being selected as a bursary programme recipient eight years ago and graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a Bcom Accounting Degree, majoring in Internal Auditing.
In the current economic climate that we find ourselves in, it is of extreme importance that large corporates give back to the South African youth through various programmes. None is more important than equipping young people with an education to help them elevate to the next level in life. Through the bursary programme, Standard Bank has assisted many students, who are now young professionals in their fields of interest.
This young lady strongly believes that family is everything. “Regardless of the challenges experienced as a family my parents always made sure that we had food on the table and access to good quality education.”
Mukwevho graduated with is now an audit manager within Standard Bank’s internal audit department, carrying out various responsibilities including care taking one of the learnerships in that department. “Not only has this created a spectrum of opportunities for me; traveling outside of South Africa’s borders, independence, and a wealth of knowledge and experience but it has also afforded me an opportunity to give back and make a difference in other people’s lives.”
