Now that summer is here, working remotely just got a whole lot more fun
Alot of us have been working from home for a while now and to be honest the whole experience is starting to lose a bit of its lustre. Sure being in pyjamas all day and not having to drive through traffic so that you can sit at a desk all day is infinitely preferable to how we used to live but that doesn’t mean there is no room for improvement. The fact is remote working gives us options and the arrival of summer expands those options 10 fold. So if you’re looking for a fun way to spruce up your remote working experience, why dont you try this:
Add Water:
If you haven’t it’s scorching outside. As a general African summers don’t play and this one is no exception. It is a well known fact that one of the best ways to cool down is to get into water. Ostensibly, water and electronics are incompatible but that’s not entirely true is it? Most phones these days are water resistant enough to survive falling in the pool and then there is the fact that you are also capable of not dropping your phone. So if your phone is clever enough, get into your pool or find the local public pool and send your emails from there. If you need proof of the efficacy of this strategy just remember that this article was written from the pool. A safer alternative is to run yourself a lukewarm to a cold bath and work from there.
Change your scenery:
We’ve all heard this before but previously it referred to moving to different areas of your house. Level 1 is now upon us which means that, with the appropriate safety precautions, you can work at your favourite coffee shop, restaurant or bar. This method has the added bonuses of using up someone else’s WiFi and supporting businesses that have been hard hit by COVID-19. If you want to take this to extremes you can even decide to travel somewhere and spend the week working from an AirBnb in another province.
Teamwork makes the dream work:
The one thing offices have going in their favour that remote working doesn’t is that sense of camaraderie. Humans are social animals and being around people is nice. If you take the correct precautions, you can recreate that social vibe by rounding up a group of mate with whom you can work. The idea is simple. Each day of the week everyone congregates at someone’s house and then the laptops come out and work commences. Again remember to be responsible and observe all necessary social distancing protocols.
